Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important political figure stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
